“[Kids] don't remember what you try to teach them. They remember what you are.”- Jim Henson

My educational philosophy is that of a "Progressivism" in which learners should be active and learn to solve problems by reflecting on their own experiences.
My main goal as a teacher, is to eventually make a difference in my student’s lives. My philosophy is to be a constant professional to my students and the people I surround myself with. In order to be an effective teacher you have to set high standards for yourself and your students. Have students believe that they can do anything that they want to do. I learned this 4 years after graduating from high school. At first, I did not believe that going to college was a thing that I would eventually accomplish. I came from a community that did not value education. It was until I decided to not be one of those people that I started doing something in my life. That is why I feel that I have a lot to bring as a teacher because I have plenty of experiences that have made me a tough individual. As a result, wherever I teach I will be a part of the community to raise awareness and provide them information that is needed to know in order to succeed in the world. I will work hard to make students better individuals and hopefully they will move on to be successful. One way of doing that is to have a good relationship with the student’s parents and give them insight on what their child is doing right and what improvements are necessary. My time as a teacher is to care about how my students are doing in my classroom. When students know that you care about them and set high expectations they will perform at a high level. I have a passion in teaching and coaching. It is something that I love doing and have patience for. I want to be a teacher that my students will look up to and go to when they need advice or support. I want my students to learn in my class and become critical thinkers. They should be questioning things that they don’t agree on and have ideas as to how to solve problems. My classroom will be student-centered as oppose to teacher-centered. I don’t want to be that teacher that is always right because that is not possible. I had teachers that were teacher-centered and I never looked forward to going to their classes. I want them to express themselves and not be afraid of speaking out on issues that they don’t agree on. We need more people in the world that will question the government, media, and the education system. To advance in society, we must take education seriously. When education is valued in a community, everyone in that community will do everything possible to make sure that students have everything that is needed in the classroom. Therefore, as a teacher I will make sure to have community events and raise money to better our school or buy supplies that are needed.
